My hubby was downstairs the other evening as well as I could hear him coughing non stop.
I hollered down to see if he was needing some help. He told myself and others that every time he had gone into the basement office lately, this was happening. He would feel like he couldn’t catch his breath and would cough up a lung. After about a week of this, I wanted him to go to get the symptoms checked out, but when he came back upstairs, the coughing fits stopped. I called the physician as well as he told myself and others it sounded like my husband was having an allergic reaction to something in the basement office. We had recently had the air ducts professionally cleaned, so I was sure that he should be better, not worse. I decided to call the Heating as well as Air Conditioning supplier to see what kind of cleaning detergent they used, thinking the residue in the ductwork might be causing the allergies. I told the HVAC guy what was happening as well as he promised to come inspect the ductwork, as all they use is steam. It turns out, when the air duct was cleaned they hadn’t cleaned the ducts and air vents thoroughly, and he feared mold or mildew was the allergen culprit. When he opened our air vents to look inside, he had on a mask as well as he wouldn’t let we homeowners in the room. He found what he was looking for. It turns out we did have a buildup of mildew in the corners of the ductwork, and the duct cleaning had missed those spots. We got the ductwork re-cleaned at no cost and all was fine once again.
