I know it has been far too long since I have been active.
As you get older, your metabolism starts to slow down, your energy decreases, and it becomes very easy — natural, even — to become sedentary.
It snuck up on me over the course of years, until one day realized I had become a lazy slob. Sitting on the couch after work was about all I did, and since laziness feeds on itself I knew I was caught in a downward spiral. Every journey starts with a single step, and in my case that step was a phone call. I reached out to an old friend of mine who was working as a personal fitness trainer at a local gym. I didn’t have a gym membership, and hadn’t done any strenuous exercise in several years, so I was intimidated. My friend calmed me down, invited me to come to the gym the next day and she would give me a free personal fitness class to see if I liked it. She said she was starting me off with the basic, remedial fitness class, the one she usually gave to the very old and the very young. If I weren’t so out of shape I would have taken offense, but at the time it seemed like the right fitness class for where I was. It was only 45 minutes, but it was more exercise then I had experienced in several years, so it wiped me out. My friend offered to get me a free trial gym membership to help me out a little.
