I had only moved into the area about two months before I realized it was time to have my air conditioning unit prepped for summer. I didn’t know very many people because I had been busy doing repairs to my home. I had this lovely old farmhouse that needed major renovations. It needed a new electrical system and plumbing. There was very little insulation in the walls, or attic. I had some major work to do. My grandfather had left the farmhouse to me in his will, and no one had left there for over twenty-five years. I expected there to be all kinds of damage inside and out, but it looked like someone had just left it a short time ago. There were even dishes in the sink. There were cobwebs all over everything and dust deep enough to brush off, and it was mine. With summer coming, I was finally getting the major work done, and I wanted to put my attention into the HVAC system. I hadn’t given the furnace or air conditioning a thought up until that moment. It wasn’t until I realized it was getting more uncomfortable working in the house, that I thought about the air conditioning. I didn’t even know if there was an AC unit or a furnace. I started talking to people in town, trying to find out who was the best HVAC technician. I finally got the name of an old gentleman. He came out and looked at the furnace for two minutes before telling me there wasn’t any working on it. He said if I wanted air conditioning, I better get one, since this house didn’t have either heating or AC.
