I was really excited about the new house I just bought. It was an upgrade from the narrow townhome I’d been living in before. My new house was considered new construction, because it was recently built and nobody had lived in the house yet. Since the house was brand new, I didn’t expect to have any issues with anything. However, after moving in, I noticed that the air quality wasn’t great. Whenever I cooked, my kitchen and living room would be filled with smoke. I also noticed that the air felt stale and stagnant. I called my HVAC provider and asked them to send an HVAC professional over to see if they noticed the same thing. The HVAC professional heard my concerns and assured me that my assumptions were right. The air wasn’t circulating properly. I told him that it was a brand new house, so I didn’t expect to have any air issues at all. However, the HVAC professional told me that most new homes are sealed tightly unlike older homes. None of the outdoor air was coming into the home and none of the air inside my home was escaping. The HVAC professional told me that my air felt stale and stagnant because it was. He also said that any airborne illnesses floating around would stay trapped inside. This concerned me, so he recommended an air purifier for the house. I took his recommendation and bought an air purifier from him. Thankfully, he had time to install it that afternoon.
