Career day for kids is at the HVAC supplier’s shop

The most important lesson of the day came from learning how to do temperature control and watch a technician show the different components of heated floors and how they can be laid under concrete or wooden floors.

As a teacher, I like taking kids outside to learn about nature, sports, or agriculture. They are always up for anything happening outside the classroom. The school’s learning timetable for every level incorporates at least one educational tour for kids. Field trips excite kids. This school term, the only scheduled trip was to an HVAC supplier’s store to learn about different types of HVAC brands. The supplier is the appointed distributor of quality HVAC to the school, but since the kids only see them do duct cleaning, air conditioning repair service or installation of new HVAC equipment, they don’t have an idea of what heated floors are or what an air conditioning expert does. When we arrived at the store, an air conditioning expert was appointed to take the students through heating and cooling equipment of all kinds and how home services differ from commercial air conditioning. The most important lesson of the day came from learning how to do temperature control and watch a technician show the different components of heated floors and how they can be laid under concrete or wooden floors. The trip was a success like any other however, some kids did not understand the concept of ac units and how they improved indoor air quality from a simple switch. I guess it can be another few years before they can fully understand how ac units actually work. Such career days also get some kids excited about becoming technicians or owning their business one day. Others also learn its something they don’t want to consider as a career, and so they end up considering other options.
