I started wondering if I could overuse the HVAC system in our house

My family and I are very demanding when it comes to our heating and air conditioning needs.

I know that sounds a little bit crazy, but there are seven of us living in our house. My husband and our five kids use the air conditioning basically non-stop in the summertime. From the time in the spring when the weather starts heating up, we turn our thermostat down and keep the A/C going until the end of summer. We aren’t like normal people who keep the thermostat set at seventy-two degrees, either. We like our A/C to be super cold and we usually keep the thermostat around sixty-five our so. I know it sounds excessive, but that’s just how we roll at our house. Luckily for us, we have an up to date high efficiency air conditioning system and our cooling bills aren’t actually that bad in the summer. But I started wondering recently if we could actually harm our HVAC system by overusing it. I don’t want to tear up our wonderful high efficiency cooling system, but I also want to have an A/C system that we can run like crazy during the summertime. I asked our HVAC technician about it and he said that today’s high efficiency air conditioning systems are made to stand up to constant use so our should probably be okay for the next five to ten years. I was surprised to hear him say that, since I thought most HVAC systems were only rated to last for around five years at the most. I guess our A/C system has more staying power than I originally thought!
