I remember going to see our Grandparents’ house undoubtedly fondly during nearly every summer time of our childhood and teenage years.
- Me and our brother and our youngest brother would spend at least 2 weeks there, properly in June or June.
My Grandparents lived on a mountain resort up north. They lived at an elevation of well over 8,000 ft. This ultimately meant that it was surprisingly cool in the summer. I even distinctly remember that there would occasionally be light snow flurries coming off the mountain in the middle of June! Air conditioning was almost never needed while we stayed with our Grandparents. I can only remember 2 summers In certain when Grandpa flipped on the air conditioner In the heat of the morning once or twice. Both times it was June and there was an unnaturally overheated spell in the area. This was a stark contrast to the way myself and others and our other 2 siblings were used to residing in the summer time back home. Both of us lived in the southeast, where the summers can be downright brutal. There was no question on just about any given summer time morning whether or not the air conditioner would be running. My family couldn’t kneel it whenever the air conditioner would go on the fritz for whatever reason. It was a top priority to call a repairman to repair it by the end of the morning, for sure. I envied our Grandparents for residing in such a appealingly cool place that didn’t need air conditioner. However, they would often tell myself and others that the winters were easily brutal where they lived. I figured it would be worth it until I visited them in January one year, and found that they weren’t joking at all. The snow was pretty, but I’ve never been so cold!
