I live in the northeastern part of the country, where the weather is chilly and wet for the majority of the year. It takes forever for the temperature to climb above freezing. We enjoy blue skies, sunshines and temperatures in the seventies and eighties for a couple of months per year. For quite a few years, I was fine without central air conditioning. I didn’t mind running box fans and using window air conditioners. I’d keep the bedroom nice and cool but the rest of the house typically felt overheated and sticky. Coming home from work, eating dinner and relaxing on the couch were all unpleasant due to the high temperatures and humidity. I had some difficulties with mold and mildew growth. The open windows allowed in bugs, pollen, exhaust fumes and exterior noise. I finally decided that central air conditioning was worth the cost of installation. I’ve been surprised how much of an improvement it is. I just love having the ability to lower the thermostat and enjoy ideal temperature in every room of the house. The air conditioner circulates the air, filters out contaminants and provides a much fresher living space. The rooms stay cleaner and I sleep better. I wake up feeling refreshed. I have greater productivity during the day. Because I spent a little more for a top-of-the-line air conditioner, I benefit from exceptional efficiency ratings, whisper-quiet sound levels and effective dehumidification. It doesn’t cost me all that much to run the cooling system. Even when the weather isn’t all that hot, I run the fan of the air conditioner to keep the air moving.
