I nearly burned my house down because of our space heater

However, after a few hours, I noticed that the burning smell was still there, but it smelled like burning rubber instead

Wow, I really dodged a bullet that time. I almost made a mistake that would have caused a lot of pain and destruction, and I wouldn’t have been able to blame it on anyone besides myself. It all started with the stupid space heater that I purchased. My wife warned me not to purchase the space heater. However, I thought that we needed a space heater, and I had never seen a deal that good for a space heater. We were at a garage sale when I saw the space heater. Granted, the space heater looked much older than I was, but it was literally only $5. There were burn marks on the metal grate, but I figured that this was standard for an old space heater. Most cheap space heaters start at $50, so I figured that if I could make this cheaper used space heater work for our home, I would have scored a great bargain. My wife was concerned about purchasing a used space heater from a garage sale, and I ignored her advice and purchased the heater anyways. When I took the space heater home, I immediately plugged it in and turned it on. Besides the smell of burning dust mites and cobwebs, I could tell that the space heater was creating a lot of heat. It was very warm in the living room, and I was happy. However, after a few hours, I noticed that the burning smell was still there, but it smelled like burning rubber instead. After a quick inspection, I noticed that the power cord was melting. I immediately turned it off and unplugged it, and I was very thankful that my house wasn’t burned down.
