There is nothing like coming home to a cool, air conditioned home after any sort of outdoor activities.
I can’t count how many times I have walked back into my house and been hit by a wave of cool, relaxing air while I am dripping with sweat, hot, and tired.
That is why I was surprised yesterday when I got home from jogging with the dog and did not feel cool air when I entered my house. At first I thought it was just me but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that there actually was something wrong with our air conditioner. I got up to check the thermostat and found that it read 77 degrees. It should be 74. I waited and waited for the air conditioner to kick on but it never did. Instead, the reading on the thermostat just kept increasing. At 79 degrees, I call our HVAC company. Since we are regulars, they were able to send someone out right away but I still called out from work to handle it. As the technician reviewed my HVAC system, I braced myself for a very expensive repair. But I had to laugh at myself when the true cause was discovered. The thermostat had not been pushed all the way back on the wall after my wife had changed the batteries this morning. Because it didn’t have a good connection, the thermostat was not able to tell the air conditioner to turn on. The HVAC technician just pushed it onto the wall and we were all set again. Oh well, at least I got a day off of work because of it.
