The time has finally rolled around for trees, reindeer and decorations.
For red and green, you know what I mean? It’s Christmas time! In all seriousness, I have already bought my children and my wife presents. But I wanted this year to stand out, I am tired of the same old buying presents and opening them, and then basically going right back to bed to sleep through the day uneventfully. What we needed was a tradition, something to help pull the family together in a fun activity. Growing up, my family had a tradition of secret Santa apart from the regular gift giving. I wanted to introduce something similar to my kids. As I was passing through the grocery store, a big box caught my eye. A gingerbread house. I figured this could our new little tradition, so I went ahead and bought it. Upon arriving home, my kids were delightfully at the idea of building a gingerbread house, and my wife liked the creativity as well. I gave them the gingerbread box to assemble, when I heard a strange humming sound. I followed the noise to my furnace. Uh oh, that’s not good. My heater wasn’t looking so good and was barely puffing out air. I spent all of my money on Christmas. I wouldn’t be able to call an HVAC serviceman till next week. Even worse, the entire heating system died a few hours later. I joined my family in building a gingerbread house, while trying to push the nagging thought of being drained of more money that I couldn’t afford to spend. Luckily, my wife and kids seemed to be so distracted with the gingerbread house, the now cooling breeze didn’t seem to bother them.
