Damaged ductwork affected the efficiency of the furnace

I was managing an accommodation facility when the clients complained that the rooms were too cool and the digital thermostat useless.

  • I didn’t need to inform the owner because that clearly indicated that the heating device we used, a furnace, was malfunctioning again.

We had already done duct sealing for ourselves some months prior, so I expected the problem to be elsewhere but not in the ductwork. Since we lived far from the local town where the heating dealer is based, we had signed out for home services handled by their mobile HVAC tech team. All we needed to do was call and book them, and we’d be added to their schedule. We were lucky enough that the HVAC serviceman would be around our area the next day, so my fear of losing more clients was reduced slightly. I have to deal with heating technology issues because, most times, they involve taking up more budgeting tasks which have to cover the unexpected. The last time we had a problem, the heating industry expert told us to consider installing a heat pump because we had the weather to favor its functioning and the needed space. But once I shared the cost of purchase and installation with the facility owner, the idea was shot down immediately, so we’ve been stuck with the heating repair. Now here I was, dealing with another heating maintenance issue similar to what we had done before. The problem would persist until we either changed the ducts or the entire equipment, which meant that the rooms would have issues with heating and cooling. I am now working on a presentation on why we need to make new decisions to keep the clients coming because we already had one negative review submitted online.
