The summer months are always the busiest time of the year for me.
I own an AC installation and repair company and we service the entire county.
That county is quite large and covers more than 150 miles. It takes almost an hour to drive from the Northern end of town to the southern end of town. There are more than a dozen different ZIP codes in the county. I’m happy to service the entire county, but sometimes business is a little too busy. During the summer months, I need all hands on deck. I have eight full-time employees and three guys that only work on the weekends. I have always told the employees that they cannot request vacation during June or July. I would prefer no vacations in August either, but I consider all of the school-age children. When 5 of my AC installation guys decided to request the same weekend off, I immediately reminded them that I have a policy about the summer. The guys all wanted the Fourth of July weekend. I knew we would be busy the entire week before the holiday and the whole week after the holiday. It’s always like that with heating or AC repairs when there is a holiday that includes family get-togethers. There was simply no way that I could honor the request. I had to tell the guys no and hope that they would understand. Thankfully, nobody decided to threaten to quit. I respect my employees and I pay them well. Summer is the time of the year when they must be accountable.
