In my opinion, furnaces are leftover HVAC technology that has no stayed with the times. Sure, the furnaces used to be a great advancement in HVAC technology, but when we learned how to develop other heating systems, we should have left the furnace behind. Why do I hate the furnace so much? First of all, furnaces might be the least efficient HVAC unit in the world. All of the heat from the furnace is forced through one small hole in the floor of each room, and that furnace creates a very uneven heat. If you only have heat coming from one location, you will always have that problem. Radiant heated flooring, on the other hand, creates an even heat. With that in mind, radiant heated flooring and boilers have another advantage over furnaces because they are silent, unlike furnaces. Even though you can purchase whisper-quiet furnaces that make very little noise, you are still stuck with the fact that furnaces can’t be completely silent. Furnaces also require a lot of installation, just like boilers. All heating systems require an installation process, but radiant heated flooring can be hidden. Also, animals and dust can get into the vents of a furnace and make your furnace inefficient and smelly. Just because you have been using a furnace for a long time doesn’t mean that your furnace is the best choice for heating. Ditch your furnace and invest in a better heating system.
