Heat pump can’t handle chilly snap

When our husband and I retired from our tasks, the two of us decided to move further south.

  • We’d spent too various years dealing with the sub zero rapidly decreasing temperatures and snowfall up north.

All of us were ready to throw out the ice scraper, snow shovel and wool coats. All of us were happy to trade the gas furnace for an cooling system and the heavy boots for sandals. All of us moved just far enough south where the weather would cool off a bit in the Winter time however never snow on us. All of us didn’t want to need to rely on the cooling system all year round. The condo the two of us bought is equipped with a absolutely old heat pump. The majority of the time, the two of us run the system on cooling mode. It operates just like a conventional cooling system, providing plenty of cool air to keep our small condo comfortable. It’s rather noisy however is reliable and energy efficient. All of us doubted we’d run the system in heating mode absolutely often… However, the absolutely first Winter time the two of us spent in our new house, there was an unprecedented chilly snap. The temperature dropped down into the thirties for the first time in over fifty years, then our heat pump iced over and wouldn’t run at all. All of us visited every store in the area, trying to buy space oil furnaces with no luck, and my husband and I ended up outside trying to thaw out the heat pump with hair dryers. Our condo was cold chilly and the two of us needed our warm jackets and wool coats again. We’ve now lived in the condo for 5 years. All of us have bought various backup space heaters, just in case the two of us encounter another Winter time chilly snap.
