Last winter, I took my family on a ten day vacation for the holidays.
I booked a nice hotel situated within walking distance of the beach. I knew we’d spend most of our time enjoying the sunshine, white sand beach and ocean waves. Because of the ideal location, the hotel was extremely expensive. From the high cost, I expected luxury accommodations. However, the hotel was rather old and there were very few amenities. We didn’t have access to a fitness room, swimming pool, laundry facilities or on-site restaurant. We had to pay for parking and the internet was super slow. We were just grateful that there was a decent air conditioner installed in the room. It wasn’t new or attractive, but it put out a great deal of cool air. Despite a dented and rusted cabinet and some missing control knobs, the air conditioner operated just fine. It was powerful enough to cool down the room within a few minutes. Although it tended to rattle and drip water, it maintained a pleasantly cool temperature. No matter how hot or humid the outside conditions, our hotel room was perfectly comfortable. We just needed to be careful not to step in the wet spot it created on the carpet. Because of the missing control knobs, we were unable to regulate the fan speed or the temperature setting. The air conditioner blasted at high speed at all times. The longer it ran, the noisier the operation. By morning, the air conditioner was squealing and the room was freezing cold. We didn’t complain about the air conditioner or the insufficient supply of hot water or even the broken coffee maker. We were just happy with the location of the hotel.
