Back when I was in high school and college, I used to think that I was so smart.
I had somehow been tricked into believing that the only way that you could ever get ahead in life and make something of yourself was if you were going to college and getting a degree in something.
At that point, it didn’t really matter to me what you were going to school for, as long as you believed in higher education. Now that I’m older, I can totally see that all of that was basically just flawed thinking. I have a degree now, but I also have no job and a ton of college loans and debt. My friend Mike, on the other hand, didn’t go to college at all. Instead, after we graduated from high school, mike went to get his heating and cooling certification at one of the local technical schools. He paid cash for the whole entire HVAC course and finished his HVAC certification class in less than two years. Then he went out and got a great job that pays him really well. He’s already a very sought after HVAC technician and he’s thinking about opening up his own commercial heating and cooling company in the next five years or so. Best of all, he has no debt from going to school! I really think that Mike’s plan for his life was way better than my own. As a matter of fact, I may end up going to school to get my HVAC certification too. I’ll probably end up going to work for Mike!
