The summer time months are pretty much the busiest time of the year for me.
I own an AC device installation and repair supplier and the two of us service the entire county.
That county is especially large and covers more than 150 miles. It takes almost an hour to drive from the Northern end of town to the southern end of town. There are more than a dozen ZIP codes in the county. I’m cheerful to service the entire county, however at times the supplier is a little too busy… During the summer season, I need all hands on deck. I have 8 full-time employees and numerous guys that only work on the weekends. I have typically told the employees that they cannot request any vacation in the peak of the summer months. I would care about having no trips in November either, although I consider all of the university-age children. When 5 of our AC installation guys made the choice to request the same weekend off, I immediately reminded them that I have a policy about the summer season. The guys all wanted the Fourth of July weekend of course. I genuinely knew we would be busy the entire month before the holiday and the whole month after the holiday also. It’s typically that way with heating or AC device repairs when there is a holiday that includes family get-togethers. There was simply no way that I could honor the request. I had to tell the guys no and genuinely hope that they would understand. Happily, nobody made the choice to threaten to quit. I respect our employees and I pay them entirely well. Summer basically is the time of the year when they must be accountable.
