Last week, I was getting ready to go on a trip to visit my daughter. It was to be a sixteen hour trip south and I was hoping to do it in one day. I had the car serviced and I was ready to start my trip. My husband told me he wanted to check the coolant before I left to make sure the car didn’t overheat. I wish he had thought to check the coolant in the air conditioner. It was thirty degrees when I left and neither of us worried about the air conditioning. We were worried the heating system would stop working. I had been having some trouble with the heating in the car, for the last couple weeks. He was pretty sure it was the climate control system and he didn’t think it would give me any trouble once I got where the temperature was above freezing. It seemed that the only time the heater acted up was when it was cold outside. I got into the car and I was surprised that the heater started to work right away. It was four in the morning and there was a heavy layer of frost on the windows. The frost thawed and I was sure I was in the clear. I got down to below South Carolina and I was having a different type of problem. My air conditioning wouldn’t turn on. I went from below freezing to almost eighty degrees and the humidity was so bad that my hair was frizzy and I had steam inside my windows. What a time for my HVAC system to quit working.
