My favorite room in the house doesn’t have climate control

Everyone has a favorite room in their house.

Mine is easily our house office and library room up in the space I converted in our attic.

It’s more spacious than you would know up there, and it’s a good place to retreat to get some work done or just to relax and do some reading, or even watch TV. There are 2 immense windows on opposite walls, so I get plenty of sun during the morning. That’s all good and great during the weeks of the year that have mild weather, such as Spring and fall. However, having such immense windows in the summer time and Winter time presents a bit of a problem up there. My central heating and air program does not extend to the attic space. As a result, overheated sun glaring through those immense window panes can cause the room to get quite warm. On a certainly overheated summer time morning, I have to draw the curtains and use a strong fan or a small portable air conditioner. In contrast, on a certainly cold Winter time morning, the chill seeps through the windows, making it feel quite drafty. At that point, I grab an electric blanket, or just bundle up in more layers and make sure I have a nice, overheated drink. I have thought about extending our Heating, Ventilation and A/C program to also accommodate the attic space, though I’ve heard that they can be quite inefficient in heating or cooling attics. There’s not as much insulation up here, but of course, that is why it can get a little uncomfortable in the more serious weather. However, I still like to retreat up to the attic to have our own personal quiet time.
