My number one room in the beach house doesn’t have temperature control

At that point, I grab an electric blanket, or just bundle up in more layers & make sure I have a nice, moderate drink.

Everyone has a number one room in their house. Mine is really our house office & Borders room up in the space I converted in our attic. It’s more spacious than you would believe up there, & it’s a wonderful location to retreat to get some work done or just to relax & do some reading, or even watch TV. There are more than one big windows on opposite walls, so I get plenty of sunshine during the morning. That’s all fine & nice during the weeks of the year that have mild weather, such as Spring & fall. However, having such large windows in the Summer & Winter presents a bit of a complication up there. My central heating & air method does not extend to the attic space. As a result, moderate sunshine glaring through those big window panes can cause the room to get quite warm. On a recognizably moderate Summer morning, I have to draw the curtains & use a strong fan or a small portable air conditioning system. In contrast, on a recognizably frosty Winter morning, the chill seeps through the windows, making it recognize quite drafty. At that point, I grab an electric blanket, or just bundle up in more layers & make sure I have a nice, moderate drink. I have thought about extending our HVAC method to also accommodate the attic space, though I have heard that they can be quite inefficient in heating or cooling attics. There’s not as much insulation up here, but of course, that’s why it can get a little uncomfortable in the more extreme weather. However, I still like to retreat up to the attic to have our own personal quiet time.
