Our home had no electricity

My husband and I thought we were so lucky when we found a house online.

It looked just like what we were looking for.

We wanted an old house with plenty of rooms so we could have our own bed and breakfast. It was absolutely perfect since it was also in Amish country. We bought the home sight unseen and made closings. We soon had the opportunity to sell our own home and move to the country. We knew the house when we drove up to it. It was just as lovely, with all of the lovely gardens and the beautiful country look. There was a small barn out back where I imagined they kept their cars and/or tractor. When we walked into the house, we fell in love with the lovely old fireplace. I went around and made sure all of the windows were open and the curtains wide, to bring in the natural lighting. It seemed that every room we walked into had a fireplace. As the afternoon progressed, I went in search of the light switches only to find out that there wasn’t any electricity. Without electricity, we realized the fireplaces were the only source of heating we had in the house. We knew the first thing we had to do in the morning, was to call the HVAC company and an electrician. We needed electricity and heating and air conditioning for this house. We also needed a hotel until we got the electricity. I should have known better than to think we had power or HVAC. After all, we were now living in Amish country and there were very few people who had electricity or HVAC.
