I work at a tanning salon that’s right by the beach.
- It can be a little controversial for people who frequent the beach to regularly tan indoors, but I think they like to even out their tan lines from their swimsuits.
Working at a tanning salon has many different nuances to deal with. One thing that’s so necessary for us to have is air conditioning. The salon that I work at has over twenty different tanning beds which sometimes all run at once, so an efficiently controlled HVAC is a non-negotiable. The tanning beds get incredibly hot, so there has to be air conditioning hitting each room. Our air conditioning technician did a great job in fixing up the space to have proper zoning control so that there are no tanning rooms that get too hot to where people might overheat as they are stepping outside of the bed. I’ve been to some tanning salons that have horrible zone control and have had people pass out while they are inside of the tanning bed. I’m so glad we’ve never had a crazy air conditioning issue because that just sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Good quality zone control keeps everyone happy, including the employees, who need the air conditioning just as much as the customers, if not more! During busy hours it can get so hot running back and forth cleaning tanning beds and checking in new clients. Not to mention cleaning the spray tanning machine in between clients. It’s a fun job with cool benefits, but it can get a bit crazy in there sometimes.
