Don’t clean your own ducts – rats

Sometimes I think that I can do everything on my own.

I don’t know why I get so overly confident about performing high-level tasks, but there are many times that I make the mistake of biting off more than I can chew.

This is especially true when it comes to my home and DIY capabilities. I regularly watch videos on YouTube and decide that I can perform the same tasks as these handy professionals. I cannot. For instance, last week when I decided I was going to clean out my own air ducts work. I knew that my central heating and cooling system needed professional attention for quite a while. I was consistently putting off my expensive indoor air quality control repairs because I did not have the extra money for it. Meanwhile, I knew that my energy bills were higher than necessary because my heating and cooling units were not working with full efficiency. It was obvious that I needed my forced air furnace and air conditioning unit tuned up and professionally diagnosed. I was also certain that my air vents and air ductwork needed a little TLC. That’s when I got online and gave myself the false confidence to try to take care of the air duct work myself. I undid a few air vent covers and started vacuuming inside of the extensive ductwork. However, I quickly realized that I was not alone. I could hear something moving in the ductwork and I began to panic. That’s when the largest rat I’ve ever seen came barreling through the ductwork straight at my face. I fell off the ladder, hit the ground, and hurt my back. Clearly, I will never try to clean my own ductwork again.
