Excited to begin their new lives as a married couple, the first thing the Daltons wanted to do was purchase a place to call home. Home buying can be messy, even for those with no financial barriers to slow the buying process. It was quickly evident that these newly weds did not know what they had gotten themselves into. They had always imagined a solid brick home, with three to four bedrooms just in case they wanted a few children, and a large backyard with close proximity to the beach. They had both grown up by the ocean, so beachfront property was high on the list of priorities. After months of looking, they found the home of their dreams, or so they thought. The first night in their new home was when they noticed the air conditioner not functioning properly. They thought that maybe it was due to the fact that the air conditioner had not been running constantly since the home had been vacant for months. By the second night, the air vents had completely ceased blowing cold air. Being first time homeowners, they had no idea how expensive HVAC repair would cost them out of their own pockets. Having been renters for so many years, they knew that repairing a faulty air conditioner was the landlord’s responsibility. But now, that HVAC repair bill was on them. It took many HVAC technicians to diagnose the issue. Only one short week after their first mortgage payment, the entire HVAC system needed replacing. The two quickly realized that being homeowners was a huge responsibility, but they slept soundly that night with their new air conditioner down low.
