My dad works in a paper mill where the heat can be excruciating, especially in the summertime.
Most employees work 16 hour days, often in the heat while cleaning and repairing machines.
In a building that size, it is difficult to generate cool air to keep everyone comfortable while running around. Therefore, the workers just have to deal with it. I can not imagine what the electric bill for a place this size would be if the air conditioners were running 24/7. Working under these conditions can cause significant health issues to those that fail to stay hydrated. It is vital to maintain water intake throughout these brutal shifts. I have seen him come home after a long day of being drenched in sweat, and I understand his desire to be the King of the Thermostat while he is home. My sister and I would often complain about how cold he kept it in the house. When these complaints of the cold air conditioner came out, my dad would tell us to “put on more clothes!” Now that I am an adult, with my own air conditioner, I understand. I love keeping the air conditioner down low in my own home now. It is so nice to have a nice HVAC system, especially in the warmer climate that I live in. My landlord has the HVAC serviced monthly, as it is a brant new unit. Lucky for me, my boyfriend also enjoys keeping the air conditioner down low, especially at night.
