My brother seems to have no concept of protecting one’s investments.
He likes to talk about how much money he makes but he seems to be rather parsimonious when it comes to certain things. I have noticed that he will often purchase expensive investments like fancy cars, but then, he cannot be bothered to have them regularly worked on so that they will be maintained. He figures that by the time his expensive vehicle is ready for a tune-up, he may very well be ready to trade it out for something that is the next best thing on the road! I think this is a very irresponsible way to look at things, and this behavior of his extends also to how he treats his heating and air conditioning system. I came to his house recently, and we were having a conversation. He mentioned that he was having trouble with his air conditioning system lately. He was laughing as he admitted that he actually thought that it was time to call someone out. Out of curiosity, I asked him where the air filter was installed. I was kind of surprised that he even knew where it went, especially when I pulled it out from its housing after I turned off the air conditioner. He asked me why I turned off the air conditioner and wanted to know about the air filter. My only response was to show him how thick with dirt it was. I find it very difficult to believe to this day what he answered me with. He said that apparently the air filter was doing its job as it had filtered out quite a lot of dirt! I explained as tactfully as I could despite my angry disbelief, that therefore, it was time to put in a new one.
