I was tired of the fan’s noise

We had a whole house fan in the cabin. Dad never enjoyed the air conditioning system, so he added a hole in the ceiling and put a massive fan into the hole. When we turned the fan on, it was too noisy, but it cooled the cabin down within minutes. The fan sucked the heat into the attic and pushed it out through the attic windows. We all complained when dad turned the fan on, but it really did just as great a task as the air conditioning system. We turned the air conditioning system on when dad wasn’t home. It was nice to relax in the cabin, have the air conditioning system on, and still listen to the television without it being at the highest volume possible. Once dad got home, we knew he would turn the television off since no one could hear it. He would turn the air conditioning system off if we hadn’t done it before he got home from work. He turned on the whole-house fan, and relaxed in his chair. He took naps there, which we couldn’t figure out, since the fan was so loud. One afternoon, he wasn’t looking at us when we were talking. He didn’t answer any question, but then he turned around. He said he didn’t realize I was home, but we knew he was going deaf. It was the only way he could not hear the fan. When the fan broke, dad didn’t buy a replacement. He said we had the air conditioning system unit, and we may as well use it. That’s when we noticed he had purchased hearing aids, and he was exhausted from the fan’s noise.
