I was doing really well in HVAC classes for the first half of the classes.
We were starting on the hands-on portion and I was finding it easy.
We came into class one afternoon, and a new instructor was there. The one who had been with us for the last three months had gotten ill and would not return. I tried to be the same upcoming HVAC technician I was while we were going through the first three months, but now I wasn’t sure I was going to make it. The new HVAC instructor scared the daylights out of me. He was bigger than anyone I had ever seen. He reminded me of a wrestler on television that my dad always watched. I waited for him to puff out his muscles and started roaring at us. One of the other students told me to puff up and roar back, but I didn’t find it funny. I was the only girl in class, but I was doing well. This man wasn’t just scary, but he was intimidating. I was barely five feet tall, and he had to be nearly seven feet tall. He pulled me aside after my fourth class with him and said he needed to talk to me. He asked me what happened? I told him how much he scared me. He said I intimidated him, but he was still doing his job. He made me laugh, and I realized he just put me at ease. Six months later, he said he was proud to have me as an HVAC technician. When I was working as an HVAC technician, the instructor asked me to go out with him, and two years later we were married, and I was still intimidating him..
