My boyfriend is quite a funny character.
He’s extremely graph and tough on the outside, but he’s actually a very sweet little creature on the inside.
He works hard to present himself a certain way and wants to make a good appearance, but in a genuine and very earnest manner. He’s a natural leader when we’re at work and around other people, but I love coming into his home and finding small ways to improve his life for once. It’s fun to see him taking a back seat and letting someone else make good choices. One of the hilarious patterns in our relationship is my penchant for repairing his dirty belongings. On the outside, everything looks quite clean around his apartment. But then, underneath it all, there seems to be a dusty layer that prevents fans, phones, and air vents from working properly. Several times now, I have fixed his problems by removing a sneaky layer of dust build-up. First, it was his standing fan. He had a large fan situated near his bed for additional ventilation at night. However, the fan was extremely ineffective. It didn’t feel like it created much airflow or increased the ventilation in the room. When I examine the fan up close, I realized that there was dust blocking the outside grate. Then, a few weeks later when the air temperature dropped, we couldn’t figure out why his room was so much colder than the rest of the apartment. There wasn’t a draft coming in from the window, so I put my hand near the air vent and realized that there was hardly any air flow coming through. Again, I examine the air vent closely and found two that a layer of dust was preventing any air passage. I guess I should be grossed out by this dust buildup conundrum instead of charmed, but it’s pretty funny because his name is Dusty.
