Soon, he was showing up most days of the week, answering the phone and chatting with his old HVAC customers, and it was a bit tiresome for Geri, especially when she had a lot to do and did not have time to talk to one customer for over half an hour
In 2019, Gerry and his lifelong partner Marge officially retired. After a lifetime of working hard to support themselves and their family, Gerry took down the sign that said “Gerry’s Heating, Ventilation, & A/C” and Margaret turned in her resignation at the real estate office where she had worked for the last 20 years. They were so thrilled to just stay at home and never have to go to work. No more broken heater calls in the middle of a blizzard. No more frantic funeral directors needing a/c for funerals that were to begin at 9:00 a.m. No more calls from their pastor seeking advice on what to do to save money on the heating and cooling costs at the church. No more teaching HVAC and refrigeration classes at the local vocational center. No more agreeing to take payments on invoices because the purchaser is a little elderly man on Social Security. They were so happy, until they weren’t. About three months into retirement, Gerry got hungry for something to do. All he could think of to do was go to Gery’s Heating & Cooling and see if his daughter needed any help with HVAC calls. Soon, he was showing up most days of the week, answering the phone and chatting with his old HVAC customers, and it was a bit tiresome for Geri, especially when she had a lot to do and did not have time to talk to one customer for over half an hour. That’s when she bought her parents surprise tickets to Europe! They would soon be saying goodbye to the American heating and A/C world and going on a tour of France, Italy, and Spain..
