Gerry Joins the Labor Union

When Gerry was just nineteen years old, he completed the HVAC program in his city’s technical school.

It took him a while to figure out what to do when he finished high school.

Before graduation, he had this idea in his head that once he got that diploma, some magical door would open and he would find a great career. Well, of course we all know that is not how it works. Unfortunately, high school is really just a basic education. It is absolutely necessary to get some kind of post-secondary education after high school, whether it be college or a program at a tech school or career postsecondary school. Well, Gerry fell in love with the idea of becoming the “A/C guy” around town, so he enrolled in the HVAC training program and promptly registered for the state HVAC certification. Once he got that, his HVAC teachers helped him get a job with a reputable HVAC company in their little city, and Gerry was happy as a clam. We all know, though, that it really becomes necessary to do everything possible to secure your position and move up in the world. For Gerry, it seemed like one of the most important things he could do was join the labor union for heating and cooling workers. His employer encouraged him to do so, and he even volunteered on some of their committees. Once he joined the labor union, Gerry gained even more credibility, and he was able to show off some of his leadership skills and learn even more than just how to fix an air conditioner. Gerry’s HVAC job was opening up a whole new world for him.
