I apologized for thinking the HVAC professional was trying to steal from us

I saw the Heating, Ventilation and A/C expert reaching into the cupboard that was near the furnace.

  • I didn’t see him taking anything out, but I was sure he was trying to rob us.

I yelled to my fiance and told him I thought the Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional was trying to steal something. He came downstairs and headed into the basement. When he came back upstairs, he was laughing. He asked me where we kept the furnace manual and the air filters. I knew we kept them in the cupboard that was by the furnace. I no sooner thought about this, when I felt foolish. He wanted to find the manual and the air filters. We had changed the air filters so seldom that he had an issue opening the air filter compartment. He thought maybe it had some special latch that needed to be moved to open it up. Once he saw he was doing the right thing, he knew the air filter was stuck because it was restrained. Because we hadn’t changed the air filter in so long, it was stuck. We were lucky we didn’t end up damaging something inside the furnace because there was really little airflow. I felt so bad for thinking he was trying to steal from us, despite the fact that I admitted it seemed peculiar to suppose the Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional needed a manual to work on the furnace. My fiance told me the Heating, Ventilation and A/C professional was just going out on his own, and using the manual was better than trying to force the air filter compartment open and cutting something. I thanked him for not damaging what we almost broke.
