It’s funny how one can seemingly go over every possible detail of a project and still be so surprised by something pretty basic.
That’s exactly what happened to me when it comes to the new heating and cooling equipment I have in my home.
We’ve always had good central air conditioning in this house. That’s thanks to the previous owner replacing the HVAC unit prior to putting this house on the market. We took good care of that HVAC equipment with seasonal HVAC maintenance every year. So that is probably why we didn’t have to initiate an HVAC replacement plan for some 26 years. But this Spring, we are headed into the heat and humidity with the latest in residential HVAC. For sure, it’s possible that we may put the house on the market. And having the best in HVAC equipment and HVAC technology is an important part of getting the most for a home. That said, we’re just thrilled to have the new heating and cooling equipment be part of our home. I spent hours and hours studying what I thought would work best with the new HVAC. So I really thought there would be no surprises once the new HVAC unit was installed. And then, I was completely blown away by the vastly improved efficiency of our heat pump. I can hardly believe the evolution in HVAC technology that has taken place. Granted, the air conditioning hasn’t been on non-stop like the Summer. But already, we are seeing an almost 40 percent improvement on the utility bills. The SEER rating on the heat pump is triple what the old one was so I don’t know how I am so surprised by the improvement in efficiency.
