For years, all I thought about was how much I wanted to be an HVAC technician.
- My mom would tell me I was too young to know what I wanted, and I needed to be a kid while I could.
I knew I wanted to be an HVAC technician, and nothing she said was going to veer me away from that decision. After I graduated from high school, I went to the community college and signed up for the HVAC courses. I passed everything with flying colors, and I was now heading to the certification classes. This was when I was wondering if I wanted this career I had chosen. I was worried about taking the certification test. If I didn’t pass the certification test, no one was going to hire me. I talked to my instructor and asked him what happens if I don’t pass the HVAC certification. He explained I could always come back and take the course again, but he didn’t think I would have any problem. I knew the information. He thought I was just thinking too much. He told me to get out of my head and remember what I had learned. I was a natural with HVAC, and he could see me being one of the top HVAC technicians in the area, if not in the state. I thanked him for having so much confidence in me, but I wished I had that confidence in me. He helped me when it came time to take the test. He invited me to dinner and introduced me to his daughter. He said if I passed the certification test, he would let me ask her out on a date. I aced the certification test.
